A healthier, crispy snack inspired by the
iconic Chili’s onion blossom.
- 1 large sweet onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon mixed dried herbs (e.g., oregano,
thyme, or parsley)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Equipment:
- Baking pan
- Parchment paper or non-stick baking mat
Directions:
1.
Preheat your oven
to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking pan with parchment paper.
2.
Peel the sweet
onion and slice it into thin, even rings or pieces using a sharp knife or
mandoline food slicer.
3.
Mix the olive
oil, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, dried herbs, salt, and pepper in a
small bowl.
4.
Spread a layer of
Parmesan cheese evenly across the lined baking pan.
5.
Arrange the onion
slices in a single layer on top of the cheese.
6.
Drizzle the
seasoned olive oil mixture over the onions, ensuring they're evenly
coated.
7.
Bake in the oven
for 15–20 minutes or until the onions are golden brown and crispy.
8.
Remove the pan from
the oven and let the onion chips cool for a few minutes to enhance their
crunch.
Tip: For extra crispiness, broil the onions for 1–2
minutes. Keep a close eye on them to
prevent burning.
Feel free to get creative with the seasonings—maybe
add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick or a sprinkle of smoked paprika
for extra depth of flavor!
