Sweet
Bread Made in a Rice Cooker
I love
making bread at home rather than buying it from the store. It is not only more
economical, but it also allows me to control the ingredients and avoid
unnecessary additives. The only problem
is that homemade bread can sometimes feel complicated and time-consuming,
especially when kneading and baking are involved.
That is why
I have been experimenting with simple bread recipes that require no kneading
and no special equipment. I recently
discovered that you can even make soft, sweet bread using nothing more than a
rice cooker. This method is especially
convenient for people who live in small apartments without an oven, or for
anyone who wants fresh homemade bread without spending a lot of time in the
kitchen.
The result
is a soft, lightly sweet bread with a simple homemade flavor. Enjoy it for breakfast, as a snack, or adapt
the recipe for a less-sweet version for sandwiches.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of warm water
- 2 cups of bread flour
- 1½ teaspoons active dry
yeast
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup of raisins
- 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds
Directions:
1. Lightly grease the inside of the rice
cooker pot with a little oil.
2. In the rice cooker pot, combine the
warm water, yeast, egg, coconut oil, sugar, flour, and salt. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and
evenly combined.
3. Cover the pot with the rice cooker
lid, but do not turn on the rice cooker yet. Let the mixture rest and rise until it has
noticeably expanded.
4. Sprinkle the black sesame seeds and
raisins, if using, over the top.
5. Close the lid and turn on the rice
cooker. Cook according to your rice
cooker’s normal cooking cycle. Since
rice cookers vary, check the bread at the end of the cycle and cook a little
longer if necessary.
6. Once the bread is cooked, let it cool
slightly before removing it from the pot. Slice
and serve warm or at room temperature.
A Few
Ideas:
You can
easily adjust the amount of sugar depending on how you plan to serve the bread.
For a sweeter breakfast bread, use the
full amount of sugar. For a less-sweet
version, reduce the sugar and serve it with eggs, meat, or other savory
fillings as a simple homemade sandwich bread.
When you
have extra time, you can also let the dough rise a second time before cooking. This may give the bread a lighter texture.
This rice
cooker method is a simple reminder that you do not need a large kitchen or an
oven to enjoy homemade bread. With just
a few basic ingredients and a rice cooker, you can make a fresh loaf with very
little effort.
One
technical point: your ingredient list says ⅓ cup rice flour, which is
unusually small for a bread recipe, so I preserved your quantity rather than
guessing. Also, the original method did
not specify when to add the yeast and coconut oil; I incorporated them into the
mixing step for clarity.
