Old-Fashioned Chocolate Chip Cookies

Who can resist a classic chocolate chip cookie?  Loved by both young and old, this timeless treat has many variations, and you’ll often find a recipe right on the flour or chocolate chip bag. Today, I’m excited to share a tried-and-true version from professional baker Anne Olson, who also shares her baking techniques on YouTube.  Follow this recipe to create perfectly soft, chewy cookies every time!

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup roasted and chopped pecans (optional)

Directions:

1.    Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2.    In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and well combined.

3.    Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.

4.    In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, and cornstarch.  Gradually add this dry mixture to the butter-egg mixture, blending until a soft dough forms.

5.    Fold in the chocolate chips and roasted pecans (if using).

6.    Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

7.    Chill the cookie dough in the refrigerator for about 1 hour to ensure the cookies bake evenly and maintain their shape.

8.    After chilling, bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

9.    Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy these classic chocolate chip cookies with a glass of milk or on their own!
