Apple Barbecue Sauce

I invented this recipe when my neighbor dropped off a big bag of apples.  Barbecue sauce is one of my favorite sauces to keep on hand. It is easy to make a quick dinner using barbecue sauce. This is a new one that I created. I hope this one is a keeper when summer time comes with all the fresh apples that are available.

Ingredients:
2 lbs fresh apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1 cup ketchup
2 tbs prepared mustard
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup liquid smoke
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 large onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 bay leaves
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp paprika
2 tbs apple cider vinegar
1 cup water
2 cups your favorite Barbecue sauce

Directions:
In a medium pan over low heat, cook apples until soft (you might have to use a potato masher to mash the apples).

In another pan, add some oil and cook the onions and garlic until fragrant. Add the mashed apples and the rest of the ingredients. Cook over low heat for an hour. Check and adjust the seasoning.

Pour the barbecue sauce into a glass jar with lid. Refrigerate sauce for weeks or freeze it.
