Cooking Beans with a Crockpot

The best friendly tool that every kitchen should have is a Crockpot. When necessary, I use a different size Crockpot to help me with specific recipes, such as one for chicken soup, another for pot roasts, baked beans, chili, or even baking a cake. I admit that I haven't tried to bake a cake yet, but I have confidence that I can if I follow the instructions on the website below with its many recipes for cooking and baking with a Crockpot.

When cooking using dried beans, a Crockpot is truly a friend because it is not necessary to watch or stir – just add water and turn on the heat. Depending on the size of the Crockpot, it might be necessary to adjust the amount of water for cooking dried beans. If the cooked beans are used to make soups or chilies, then the levels of water is not important because the cooked beans will be drained of water before being added to the recipe. Using a Crockpot to cook dried beans will save money and is also healthy since no preservatives are needed. Beans then can be stored in Ziploc® bags in the refrigerator for a few days or kept in the freezer for months.
Equipment:
2 qt Crockpot

Ingredients:
1 cup dried red beans
4 cups water

Directions:
Wash beans with water and throw out any beans floating to top of water. Place beans in the Crockpot. Add water and turn to low heat. Let them cook for 6 hours or overnight. If you need cooked beans immediately, then turn heat to high for 4 hours.
